A Little Bit About Mick

Mick Guthrie is a Sydney based Irish Australian Artist who was born in Galway, Ireland. He studied Marine Engineering at the Cork Institute of Technology. After a fifteen-year sea-going career Mick embarked on a sea change to pursue his passion for art. In particular, Mick is interested in clay sculpture and Photography. In 2018 he achieved a Master of Art in Photomedia with Excellence.Mick is self-taught in ceramic sculpture. Drawing on his engineering background he has been able to discover for himself, an individual set of clay sculpting and firing rules. He always enjoys the trouble shooting and creative process. This has allowed Mick to create beautiful and unique works, which can be seen on this website. Many cultural influences, from all over the world, come into play in Mick’s work.

 

Exhibitions

The National Gallery of Australia (NGA), Canberra, has sold his work through their gift shop. Where, Mick and his wife Nicole developed a special range of merchandise for the NGA’s “Book of Kells” exhibition. In addition to private galleries, his works have sold through the National Museum of Australia, Canberra. In the past Mick’s work has been exhibited at a number of shows and through a number of galleries. For instance he has exhibited in a group exhibition of Celtic Art at the Mosman Community Art Gallery. He exhibited a video work and some photographic prints through Annandale Galleries in 2015.

Mick’s artworks have been sold to private collectors all over the world. He is an established artist who brings a fresh, unique and individual style to clay sculpture.

 

Bespoke pieces

Mick is very much a hands-on artist and so, loves to chat with others about their art needs. He is happy to work with clients in designing pieces from a brief for their homes, offices or friends. In addition, Mick strives to provide an excellent and uniquely personal artistic service and loves feedback on his art.
